Williamson Ready for 360 Knoxville Nationals Debut This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – COLUMBIA, Mo. (Aug. 5, 2020) – Garet Williamson took a laid-back approach to the week before the 360 Knoxville Nationals.

There was no racing last weekend. Instead, the Bryant Paver Motorsports team stocked a new trailer and regrouped before heading to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this weekend for their biggest race of the season.

“It let us regroup and not worry about getting the car ready and everything else this week,” he said. “But laps always help, too. So good things always come with the bad. It’s not something that is going to make or break us.”

Williamson is slated to run Thursday during Night 1 of the 30th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank. He will compete against a stacked field that includes Kerry Madsen, Tim Shaffer, Austin McCarl, four-time Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour champion Sam Hafertepe Jr., Cory Eliason and Aaron Reutzel to name a few.

All of those drivers have more experience than the young Missouri driver. To help his cause, Williamson visited Knoxville Raceway three times this season and he continues to prepare for the big half-mile oval away from the track.

“After going there and making laps, it definitely helps,” he said. “If we didn’t I feel it would be a different story and would change a lot of things. Going there gave us a little bit of confidence.

“I’ve been watching a lot of videos on YouTube, especially earlier in the night to see what I would do different. I’ve watched videos from year’s past just trying to get as much knowledge as I can.”

Williamson and the team have made very few changes to their car for this event. The idea was to get a good baseline and make adjustments as needed.

Williamson has qualified for two main events in three starts at the Marion County Fairgrounds. That’s given him some confidence and a little excitement heading into hallowed ground for 360 sprint car racing’s premier event.

“I’m more excited than nervous,” he said. “There are always a little bit of nerves and anxiousness to get there, but you’ve got to look at it as another race.

“You can’t let the fact that it’s the Nationals and everything else get to you or you won’t be any good. You have to treat it as another race and be focused and ready.”

Williamson will also compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Sunday at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, during the Sage Fruit Ultimate Challenge presented by Searsboro Telephone Co.
